September 2026
Install Bankayo
Chrome and Edge can Install Bankayo as an app (a prompt, or the account menu). On iPhone or iPad use Share → Add to Home Screen. Banking data is not kept offline. See Signing in.
What customizing Fineract includes
Bankayo customizes Apache Fineract for the institution: the operator UI, the backend around the core, integrations, and compliance — internal controls and what the bodies that regulate you require — not only a new front end. See Fineract help, UI, and customization.
Product feedback
The top bar has Feedback. Choose Issue (something wrong in this institution) or Idea (something Bankayo should change), then send a short note. ? is still the written guide for the screen you are on. See Finding your way around.
Sticky help bar
Help articles keep a sticky top bar with search, light/dark, and Use Bankayo. The written guide still starts on Read. See Finding your way around.
Read and Watch on help articles
Every help article has Read and Watch tabs. Read is the written guide (and the default). Watch plays a walkthrough when one exists, or lets you ask for a video when it does not. At the bottom of the page you can say whether the article was helpful. See Finding your way around.
Signing in and adding a server
Bankayo has no default Fineract. Add server (https:// and a
CA-trusted certificate, plus tenant ID) comes first; username and password
appear only after that server is saved and selected. The browser never talks
to the core — Bankayo holds the session. Saved servers stay in this browser
only. The sign-in screen links to
docs.bankayo.io; Watch
plays the walkthrough. See Signing in.
Roles and permissions
Admin → Roles is a named permission set you assign on Users. Tick grants by group, save only what changed, and disable or delete a role when nobody still has it. Commands that need a checker are institution-wide on Maker-checker, not per role — the role page shows a Needs checker badge. Watch plays the walkthrough. See Roles.
User wizard
New user and click a row open a five-step wizard (profile, office, password, roles, review) instead of a docked sidebar. Email is optional unless you email the password. Close returns to the list. See Users.
Dashboard currency
When the institution permits more than one currency, the Dashboard and
Portfolio health headers offer a currency
picker next to office. Money tiles count only accounts in that currency.
The default is the first currency the organisation has permitted. The address
bar keeps ?currency= (and ?office= when you switch branches). Client,
staff, office, and checker counts stay office-scoped only. See
Dashboard.
Dashboard
The home Dashboard is a grid of live portfolio cards for the office and currency you select: clients, loan outstanding and overdue (including PAR 30), pending approval and disbursal, disbursements, expected collections, savings, checker inbox, offices, and staff. Each card opens the matching screen. Tiles you cannot read stay hidden. Portfolio health adds PAR 60/90, product mix, and days-past-due bands. PAR 30 is loans 30 or more days past due, not every loan in arrears. See Dashboard.
Income statement and balance sheet
Income statement and Balance sheet are first-class screens (sidebar and
Ctrl+K), not only catalog rows. They look up the published table reports
Income Statement Table and Balance Sheet Table, run the current period
plus the same window one and two years earlier, and download a PDF. Year-over-year
columns are extra runs of the same Fineract report. On the balance sheet,
Retained Earnings (3XXX) is a presentation plug so the statement closes — not
a general-ledger posting. Opening those two names from the catalog redirects
here. Trial Balance stays on the generic runner. See
Income statement and
Balance sheet.

Import shares
Import shares (Institution) bulk-creates share accounts or purchases additional shares from an Excel spreadsheet. Match clients by external ID, preview rows, and post valid purchases one at a time against a selected share product. This replaces the Fineract share-account workbook under Organization bulk import. See Import shares.
Import savings
Import savings (Institution) bulk-posts cash deposits from an Excel
spreadsheet (POST /savingsaccounts/{id}/transactions?command=deposit).
Match clients by external ID, preview rows, and post valid deposits one at
a time. This replaces the Fineract savings-account workbook under
Organization bulk import. See Import savings.
Bulk import navigation
Each bulk-import type is its own Organization screen (Import offices, Import clients, Import loans, and the rest). Open them from the sidebar or Ctrl+K — there is no catalog item in navigation. Journal entries stay under Accounting → Import journal entries — not the Fineract workbook hub. Savings deposits stay under Institution → Import savings. Share purchases stay under Institution → Import shares. See Bulk import.
Near-breach
Near-breach (Products) lists reusable working-capital near-breach
rules (GET/POST /working-capital/near-breach). Frequency membership
comes from the breach template — there is no near-breach template API.
This is not a loan-level near-breach action. See
Near-breach.
Breach
Breach (Products) lists reusable working-capital breach rules
(GET/POST /working-capital/breach/breaches). Frequency and amount
calculation membership come from GET /working-capital/breach/template.
This is not a loan-level breach action. See
Breach.
Share dividends
Share dividends (Products) lists payouts for a share product
(GET/POST /shareproduct/{id}/dividend). Declare a period and amount,
then approve or delete while the payout is still initiated. Status is
Fineract ShareProductDividendStatusType (initiated / approved). This
is not the minimum-active-period field on the share product. See
Share dividends.
Products mix
Products mix (Products) lists loan products that cannot be active
together (GET /loanproducts?associations=productMixes). Product
membership comes from the mix template. This is not the loan-product
catalog. See Products mix.
Collateral catalog
Collateral (Products) lists reusable collateral types
(GET/POST /collateral-management). Currency membership comes from
GET /collateral-management/template, kept to enabled organisation
currencies. This is not the loan-application collateral grid. See
Collateral.
Loan originators
Loan originators (Organization) lists parties that originate loans
(GET/POST /loan-originators). Status and type membership come from
GET /loan-originators/template. Attach/detach stays on the loan. See
Loan originators.
Investors
Investors (Organization) lists external asset-owner transfers
(POST /external-asset-owners/search). Cancel the latest pending or
buyback transfer. Sale and buyback stay on the loan. See
Investors.
Fund mapping
Fund mapping (Organization) searches outstanding loans by office and
product (POST /search/advance). Product and office membership comes
from GET /search/template. This is not the Funds catalog and not a
fund-to-GL map. See Fund mapping.
Ad-hoc query
Ad-hoc query (Organization) lists saved SQL the
Generate AdhocClient Schedule job inserts into a table. Frequency
membership comes from GET /adhocquery/template. This is not a live
SQL console and not Reports. See
Ad-hoc query.
Entity data-table checks
Entity data-table checks (Organization) require a registered extra-data
table when a client, group, loan, or savings account reaches a status.
Entity and status membership come from GET /entityDatatableChecks/template.
Fineract has no update API. This is not System → Manage data tables. See
Entity data-table checks.
Password preferences
Password preferences (Organization) chooses the seeded Fineract
policy for new user passwords (simple, secure, strong). Membership
comes from GET /passwordpreferences/template. See
Password preferences.
Bulk loan reassignment
Bulk loan reassignment (Organization) moves selected loans from one
loan officer to another at the same office. Offices and officers come
from GET /loans/loanreassignment/template. See
Bulk loan reassignment.
Bulk import
Bulk import (Organization) is Fineract Excel templates for offices, clients, loans, and other entities. Each type is a sidebar link (Import offices, Import clients, and the rest). Download a template, fill it, and upload it. Previous imports show row counts and an output workbook for errors. This is not the journal preview importer or the groups-list shortcut. See Bulk import.
SMS campaigns
SMS campaigns (Organization) lists Fineract SMS and notification
campaigns. New campaign is a four-step wizard (details, audience,
message, review). Activate, close, or reactivate from the campaign page.
Sending needs an SMS gateway; the UI still talks to /smscampaigns. See
SMS campaigns.
Credit bureau
Credit bureau (Institution) maps a seeded Fineract bureau to this institution, attaches loan products, and stores connection keys. It is not a client credit profile and not the CB-ILD plugin. See Credit bureau.
Account transfers and standing instructions
Account transfers (Institution) lists one-off postings between savings accounts or from savings to a loan. New transfer is a four-step wizard (from, to, details, review). Open a transfer to undo it. Standing instructions schedules those transfers. New instruction is a five-step wizard; edit cannot change from/to accounts or the name. Standing instruction history (Organization) lists each run. These are not repay-from-savings on a loan workspace. See Account transfers, Standing instructions, and Standing instruction history.
Collection sheet
Collection sheet (Institution) finds centers with a collection meeting on a date for an office and staff member. Open a center to post attendance and repayments on that center's sheet. Individual collection sheet posts bulk repayments and mandatory savings for individual loans in an office. These are not the sheet on a group or center workspace. See Collection sheet and Individual collection sheet.
Account number preferences
System → Account number preferences lists Fineract account number formats
(one per entity: client, loan, savings, center, group, shares, working capital
loan). Create, edit, or delete a prefix; membership comes from
GET /accountnumberformats/template. Sequential versus random numbers is the
random-account-number configuration, not this screen. See
Account number preferences.
External events
System → External events lists every outbound Fineract business-event
type and lets you enable or disable posting to Kafka or JMS. Membership
comes from GET /externalevents/configuration. This is not Hooks and not
the notifications bell. See External events.
Entity-to-entity mapping
System → Entity-to-entity mapping lists Fineract office and role access
to loan products, savings products, and charges. Create, edit, or delete a
mapping; types come from GET /entitytoentitymapping. See
Entity-to-entity mapping.
System information
System → System information shows live build, server, and signed-in staff facts: Bankayo version, Fineract actuator info, tenant header, server origin and health, and office/roles from authentication. Fineract has no license API — the screen documents that gap instead of inventing a license server. Any signed-in staff member can open it. See System information.
Manage data tables
System → Manage data tables is the admin catalog for extra-data tables. Create and edit use a three-step wizard (table, columns, review). Columns are listed on the second step; add or edit a field in the docked side panel. This is not the Extra data tab on a client, group, or center — that is where staff fill values. See Manage data tables.
External services
System → External services configures SMS, email (SMTP), Amazon S3, and notification (GCM/FCM) gateways. Side tabs pick a gateway; the card shows live fields. Leave secret fields blank to keep the stored value. See External services.
Hooks
System → Hooks lists Fineract webhooks. Create and edit use a four-step
wizard (details, config, events, review). Config fields and events come from
GET /hooks/template (Web, SMS Bridge, Elastic Search, Message Gateway).
Only Web can have more than one hook. See Hooks.
Jobs: scheduler, workflow, and catch-up
System → Jobs can start or stop the global scheduler, run a job with optional parameters, and show whether the batch queue is busy. A Workflow tab orders close-of-business steps and can run loan COB for specific loan IDs. Loan COB catch-up shows lag against the COB date and can be started from this screen. See Jobs.
Maker-checker flags
Which commands need a checker is now set under System → Maker-checker. The flags are institution-wide (Fineract has no per-role maker-checker). Role permission pages show a Needs checker badge on those commands. See Maker-checker and Roles.
Center meetings, collection sheet, accounts, notes, and extra data
A center workspace now has the same leftover sections as a group: a collection meeting (inherited by groups in the center), a collection sheet for a meeting date, a read-only accounts overview, staff notes, and extra data tables. Open new loans or savings from a group, not from the center. See Centers.
Two-factor authentication
When the banking server requires two-factor authentication, sign-in asks for a one-time code after the password — sent by email or text, using the methods Fineract offers for that login. The token stays on the server (never in the browser) and is dropped when you sign out. See Signing in.
Clear the fund on a loan application
Fund on a loan application is optional. When the product has a fund, Bankayo still copies it as the default, but officers can choose No fund. The same clear option is on the loan product wizard. See Opening an account and Funds.
Fixed and recurring deposit charges, statements, and receipts
Fixed and recurring deposit workspaces now have Charges and Statement sections, matching savings. Add, pay, waive, or stop fees on the account; preview a date range and download a PDF; cash deposit and withdrawal rows (and the sidebar after a successful cash posting) can download a receipt. Holds and officer assignment are not on these accounts — Fineract has no commands for them. See Fixed deposit charges, Fixed deposit statement, Recurring deposit charges, and Recurring deposit statement.
Open a fixed or recurring deposit
Opening a fixed or recurring deposit is a docked sidebar on the client's list — the same pattern as savings, not a full-page wizard. Required is the product, dates, amount, and term (plus collection frequency on a recurring deposit). Optional starts from the product. See Opening an account.
Fixed and recurring deposit workspaces
A fixed or recurring deposit now opens in its own workspace — not under the client header. Overview shows performance next to product and term facts; Transactions lists postings. See Fixed deposits and Recurring deposits.
Fixed and recurring deposit applications
Opening a fixed or recurring deposit now follows Fineract's account create rules. A recurring deposit collects the recommended installment and collection frequency (or inherits the group meeting calendar) — not a single deposit amount. A fixed deposit still takes the deposit amount and term, and can link savings for interest transfer and set maturity instructions. Product min/max amount and term are enforced before submit. See Clients — Opening an account.
Fixed and recurring deposit product detail
Fixed and recurring deposit products open as a sectioned workspace, like loan and savings products: general, terms, interest chart, and accounting when the rule is not None. Minimum and maximum term show as a length and unit together — for example 3 months. See Fixed deposits and Recurring deposits.
Amount and unit on one field
Where a number only makes sense with its unit — minimum term, lock-in, repay every, deposit period — Bankayo now shows them as one control, for example 3 months, instead of two separate boxes. Chart rate tiers put the from-period and unit together the same way.
Fixed and recurring deposit money movements
Recurring deposits use the recurring deposit workspace. Fixed deposits use the fixed deposit workspace. On an active account you can record a deposit or withdrawal, calculate or post interest, and close early — with the amount Fineract calculates on the chosen date, paid out in cash or transferred to savings. Recurring deposits can change the recommended installment from a date; withdrawals appear only when the product allows them. Matured accounts close with the payout options Fineract returns (including reinvest when offered). Cash deposit and withdrawal rows can be undone or modified. See Recurring deposits and Fixed deposits.
Templates
Admin → Templates is live. The list shows every user-generated document and SMS template. Create and edit use a four-step wizard (details, mappers, text, review). Entity (client or loan) and type (document or SMS) come from the banking service. Click a Mustache parameter to insert it into the body. See Templates.
Loan-loss provisioning documentation
Help now covers the full provisioning ecosystem: Loan-loss provisioning (criteria, entries, loans, GL accounts, and journal entries), Loan provisioning criteria, and an expanded Provisioning entries page — each with a YouTube walkthrough on the help page.
Manage reports
System → Manage reports is live. The list shows every report (core and custom). Create, copy, and edit use a four-step wizard (details, parameters, SQL, review). Core reports can only turn In use on or off. Copy creates a custom report you can change SQL and parameters on. New custom reports and In use control what appears in the Reports catalog. See Manage reports.
Reports
Reports is live. The catalog lists published reports (search, type filter, CSV/Excel). Open a Table or SMS report, fill its parameters, and run it. Results page in a grid and export as CSV or Excel. Dates and decimal amounts are formatted on screen (ledger figures with no currency code; negatives in parentheses). Catalog and result CSV files are UTF-8 so Excel can open them; Excel downloads are real workbooks. Table and SMS reports run from this screen. Chart, Pentaho, and BIRT types may still appear when Fineract lists them; running those engines is out of scope (Pentaho is a plugin; Chart and BIRT are not Bankayo run targets). See Reports.
Faster entity search
Ctrl+K searches clients, loans, savings, shares, groups, centers, and client identifiers in one go (name, account number, mobile, or external ID). Client pickers in forms (for example guarantors and group members) also match account number, mobile, external ID, and ID documents — not only display name. The Clients list (and its CSV/Excel export) uses the same richer search when you type in the filter box. See Finding your way around and Clients.
Client list shows mobile number
The client list (and CSV/Excel export) now includes each client's mobile number, between name and external ID. See Clients.
Client wizard: default savings and the rest of create
New client can pick a default savings product. If you activate the client now, Fineract opens an active savings account on that product as soon as the client is created. If you leave them pending, the product is stored as their default and the account opens when you activate them. The wizard also collects the other create fields the API already accepted: gender and staff flag for a person; constitution, business line, and incorporation for an entity; optional account number and submitted date; client type and classification; marital status and profession on family members. See Clients — Creating a client.
Share certificate
Active share accounts with approved shares can Download certificate from the workspace header. The PDF names the member, account, product, approved shares, and market value, with signature and stamp lines for the institution. See Shares.
Savings statement and cash receipts
The savings workspace now has a Statement section: pick a date range, preview opening and closing balances with credits and debits, and download a PDF. Cash deposits and withdrawals (not reversed, not account transfers) can download a receipt PDF from the transaction row, and from the sidebar after you record one. See Savings statement.
New client uses the product wizard layout
New client now uses the same full-page workspace as loan and savings product wizards: close in the header, steps in a left rail on a large screen (across the top on a tablet or phone), and Previous / Next (then Create client) in the footer. The four steps are unchanged — basic details, contact, optional family, then review. See Clients — Creating a client.
Fixed and recurring deposit product wizard
Creating or editing a fixed or recurring deposit product now matches how loan and savings products work — each step validates before you move on, and a final review summarizes everything before you save. The interest chart has its own step, separate from the rest of the terms, and now supports multiple rate tiers instead of a single flat rate — add a tier for each period range that should earn a different rate (e.g. 4% for 3–6 months, 5% for 6–12 months), and tiers are checked for overlap as you go. Editing an existing product with several tiers now correctly loads all of them, rather than only the first. The terms step also gained a maximum term field alongside the existing minimum. Recurring products put mandatory deposit and allow withdrawal on terms (there is no separate settings step).
Accounting also has its own step now, with the same validation Fineract itself applies: choosing cash or accrual periodic requires the matching GL accounts (reference, control, transfers-suspense, interest, fee and penalty income, plus fees/penalties-receivable and interest-payable for accrual) — narrower than savings products since fixed and recurring deposits don't support overdraft. Editing an existing product now correctly loads its accounting setup too, which previously wasn't read back at all. See Fixed deposit products and Recurring deposit products.
Sign in to a server you manage
The sign-in screen can now connect to a Fineract server you specify, instead
of the one Bankayo ships with. Save a server as a named profile (just its
address and a tenant ID — leave off the path and Bankayo fills in the
standard one) from a panel on the sign-in screen, then pick it before
entering your username and password — your whole session runs against that
server. Only https:// addresses with a valid, CA-issued certificate are
accepted; self-signed certificates are rejected. See
Signing in.
Share accounts
Share accounts open in their own /shares/[id] workspace (like savings and
loans), not under the client header. Overview shows holdings and market value;
Transactions lists purchases and redemptions, paged like savings and loans
(25 at a time; 10, 50, or 100 if you prefer). Reversed postings are hidden until
you turn on Show reversed. Approve or reject pending purchases from the row;
Charges lists fees. From Actions you can
approve, activate, undo approval, reject, close, apply for additional shares, or
redeem. Lifecycle commands use the Fineract date field names (approvedDate,
activatedDate, closedDate). See Shares.
Share products
Creating or editing a share product is an eight-step wizard (details, currency, terms, settings, market price, charges, accounting, review). Terms cover total shares, shares issued, unit price, and computed share capital. Settings cover min / nominal / max shares, lock-in, a minimum active period for dividends (days only), and dividends for inactive clients. Accounting is None or Cash — share products have no accrual option. Cash needs share reference, share suspense, share equity, and income from fees. Share products cannot be deleted. There is no product start or close date. Open a product for a sectioned workspace (general, terms, settings, plus market price, fees, and accounting when present). A walkthrough creates Normal Share With Accounting on Cash and edits it. See Share products, Create a share product, and Share product accounting.
Find screens and sections
The sidebar searches every screen you can open — including nested Organization, Products, and Accounting pages — without opening a section first. Ctrl+K also lists the sections of the record you are on, and finds clients, loans, groups, and centers. On a help page, the same shortcut (or the help sidebar search) opens a topic list you can filter by Guides, Products, Accounting, or Organization. See Finding your way around.
Savings charges
The savings workspace has a Charges section. Add a fee or penalty from savings charge templates, pay or waive an outstanding charge on an active account, stop a recurring annual, monthly, or weekly fee, or remove a charge from a pending application. Specified due-date charges need a due date; annual and monthly fees need a due day. See Savings charges.
Savings deposits and withdrawals
From a savings account you can record deposits and withdrawals, post or calculate interest, hold and release amounts, block deposits or withdrawals, and assign an officer. On a deposit or withdrawal you can undo it or change the date, amount, payment type, payment details (account, cheque, routing, receipt, bank), and external ID. A deposit or withdrawal that is an account transfer is shown as an inward or outward transfer, with payment and transfer details under the type; those rows cannot be undone or changed here. The transaction list is paged (25 at a time; 10, 50, or 100 if you prefer). Reversed postings are hidden until you turn on Show reversed. Cash payments use institution payment types only — not system-generated ones. See Savings.
Savings account workspace
A savings account has its own workspace — not the client header — with performance (balance, available, deposits, inward and outward transfers when they exist, withdrawals, posted interest, last activity), transactions, and charges. Open it from a client or group. See Savings.
Open a savings account
Opening a savings account is a docked sidebar — product, submitted date, and optional officer on Required, and product defaults you can override on Optional. The same sidebar opens group savings. See Opening an account and Group savings.
Savings products
Creating or editing a savings product is an eight-step wizard (details, currency, terms, settings, charges, accounting, mappings, review), the same pattern as a loan product. Help now covers every field: compounding versus posting (including daily posting and anniversary periods), daily versus average balance, lock-in, overdraft and lien, withhold tax, dormancy and escheat, attached charges, and cash or accrual GL accounts with a glossary (savings control, savings reference, suspense, interest payable, and the rest). The posting picker includes Daily and anniversary periods, not only calendar monthly through annual. Open a product for a sectioned workspace. Savings accounting has no upfront accrual option and no product start or close date. Two walkthroughs cover the wizard: create stops on None without saving; cash accounting saves Normal Savings With Accounting. See Savings products, Savings product accounting, and Create a savings product.
Centers
Institution → Centers lists village-style centers that hold groups. Search by name, sort, and export. New center picks an office, optional staff, and optional groups, and can activate immediately. Open a center for overview and groups. Actions activate, close, or delete a pending center with no groups. Groups must belong to the center's office and not already sit in another center. See Centers.
Groups
Institution → Groups lists client groups. Search by name, filter by office, staff, or external ID, sort, and export. Import downloads a template and uploads a workbook. New group picks an office, optional staff, optional center, and optional members, and can activate immediately. Open a group for overview, members (roles and transfers), group and member loans and savings, meetings, collection sheet, notes, documents, and extra data. Open a group loan or Open group savings on an active group; Open linked member loans or Open linked member savings when the group has members. Opening a loan application shows the client's name or the group name in the wizard header. Opening a savings account is a docked sidebar (required product and date, optional product overrides), not a wizard. If the product sets a minimum or maximum principal or interest rate, that range appears on Terms and you cannot continue until the amount is inside it. Opening a group loan defaults the officer to that group's staff, and can attach the collection meeting and link group savings. Actions activate, close, assign or unassign staff, or delete a pending group with no members. Members must belong to the group's office. Joint-liability loans and savings still open from a member. See Groups.
Provisioning entries
Accounting → Provisioning entries calculates loan-loss reserves from your provisioning criteria. New entry picks a date on or before today, and can post the journals immediately. Click a row to see the lines; create journals or recreate the lines from the row menu while journals are not yet posted. Posted journals appear under Journal entries. See Provisioning entries.
Accruals
Accounting → Accruals accrues loan income through a date before today. Run accruals posts the journals; they appear under Journal entries. See Accruals.
Closures
Accounting → Closures locks an office so no journal can post or reverse on or before that date. New closure picks an office and a date; comments are optional. Click a row to change the comment (office and date stay as they were). Delete only the latest closure for that office. See Closures.
Accounting rules
Accounting → Accounting rules lists named debit and credit account pairs. New rule picks an office and two detail GL accounts. Search, sort, and export the catalog. Click a row to edit; delete from the row menu when the rule is not in use. On New journal, pick a rule to fill the debit and credit accounts, or choose the accounts yourself. See Accounting rules.
Roles
Admin → Roles lists named permission sets. New role collects a name and description, then opens that role so you can grant permissions. Click a row to search and tick grants by group. Disable or delete is refused while users still have the role. See Roles.
Users
Admin → Users lists app logins (not Employees). Search, sort, and export the catalog. New user and click a row open a five-step wizard: profile, office, optional staff at that office, password (emailed or set here), roles, then review. Email is optional unless you email the password. Leave password blank on edit to keep it. You cannot delete your own login or the system user. See Users.
Journal entries
Accounting → Journal entries lists debit and credit lines (last month through today by default). Tabs switch all, manual, or system entries. Filters sets dates, office, account, and transaction ID; Clear restores the default month. New journal opens a wizard: details (optional accounting rule fills the debit and credit accounts and shows them on that step), optional payment type and cheque or receipt numbers, debit and credit lines, then review before you post. Click a row to see the whole transaction and Reverse it when you have permission. Amounts use the currency code. See Journal entries.
Teller cash allocate and settle
Cash details on a cashier is its own page. The header has a compact
currency picker (ISO codes such as KES, not a symbol) next to Allocate
cash and Settle cash. The page shows allocated, cash in, cash out,
settled, and net cash, plus a paginated transaction list. Allocate and
settle collect date, currency, amount, and a note. See
Tellers.
Organization offices, staff, calendar, and tellers
Admin → Organization now includes Offices, Working days, Employees, Holidays, and Tellers. Offices are an expandable branch tree (no delete), the same pattern as chart of accounts. Working days is a weekday and repayment-reschedule form. Employees are staff (no delete; deactivate is refused if they still have a portfolio). Holidays start pending and need activate; delete is a soft delete. Tellers are saved first; cashiers show on the list and open from that column or the row menu. See Tellers.
Distinct navigation icons
Sidebar, Ctrl+K, and the Products / Organization / Accounting hubs now use a different icon per screen: loan products are not the same box as charges, and organization catalogs are not all a building. See Finding your way around.
Open a floating-rate loan
Officers can open a loan on a product that tracks a published floating rate. The wizard asks for a differential instead of a nominal rate, and can keep the loan tracking later published periods when the product allows it. The product’s fund is copied onto the application as the default. See Loan product terms.
Loan charges
Charges now documents every loan variation: five collection times (disbursement, specified due date, installment, overdue, tranche), five calculations including percent of disbursement on tranches only, payment mode, penalty locks, min/max caps, tax, and how templates attach to a product or to a loan. Income for loan charges is mapped on the product mappings step, not on the charge.
Loan product charges and mappings
The loan product wizard now has eight steps. Charges is a selectable table: name and fee/penalty on the first column, with collection, calculation, and payment mode as secondary text; amount (and caps) in the second; ledger account and tax group in the third. Payment-channel, fee, penalty, and reason-to-expense mappings moved out of Accounting onto their own Mappings step. Channel mapping lists institution payment types only — not system-generated types. See Create a loan product.
Heritage theme
The account menu Theme list now includes Heritage (warm pearl and heritage green, from the micropay UI). It is the default for new sessions. Neutral, Royal Blue, Cerulean, Ruby, and Emerald remain. See Finding your way around.
Tax groups
Admin → Organization → Tax groups lists tax components and the groups a charge can pick. Create a component first (name, percentage, optional start date and credit account), then group components. Add or edit from a docked sidebar. Fineract does not delete tax components or groups. Combined percentages in a group cannot exceed 100%. See Organization — Tax groups.
Write-off and charge-off reasons
Admin → Organization → Loan reasons lists the write-off and charge-off reasons officers pick on a loan. Add or edit a reason (name, description, position, active) from a docked sidebar. Delete asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses a reason that is still in use. A loan product can map each reason to an expense account when accounting is not None. See Organization — Loan reasons.
Chart of accounts
Accounting → Chart of accounts lists the ledger accounts a loan product picks for cash or accrual accounting. Add or edit an account (name, GL code, type, usage, optional parent header) from a docked sidebar. Detail accounts show on product and charge pickers; headers group other accounts. The list now supports expandable tree rows to show hierarchy inline. Delete asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses an account that is still in use. See Accounting — Chart of accounts.
Organization delinquency buckets
Admin → Organization → Delinquency buckets lists day-past-due ranges and the buckets a loan product can assign for installment-level delinquency. Create ranges first, then group them into a bucket. Add or edit from a docked sidebar; delete asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses a range or bucket that is still in use. See Organization — Delinquency buckets.
Organization floating rates
Admin → Organization → Floating rates lists the published rates a floating loan product can follow. Add or edit a rate (name, base lending rate, active, and future periods) from a docked sidebar. Periods that have already started cannot be changed. Officers can open a loan on a floating-rate product. See Organization — Floating rates.
Organization payment types
Admin → Organization → Payment types lists the methods officers pick on cash loan payments and that you map to fund-source accounts on a loan product. Add or edit a type (name, description, cash flag, position) from a docked sidebar. System-generated types cannot be deleted, and cash loan payments never offer them. See Organization — Payment types.
Organization funds
Admin → Organization → Funds lists the donor, programme, or internal-pool names you put on a loan product and when opening a loan. They tag whose capital that product or loan uses; they do not hold a balance or post to the ledger (that is the GL fund source account on accounting). Add or edit a fund (name and optional external ID) from a docked sidebar. Fineract does not delete funds. See Organization — Funds.
Dedicated product help
Help for products is split by type. Loan products have a page per wizard step (details through review). Create a loan product embeds the public YouTube walkthrough. See Loan products.
Command forms in a sidebar
Actions that collect details (a date, amount, reason, officer, and so on) now open a docked sidebar over the page. Only yes/no confirms — delete, undo, unassign — stay in a dialog. See Clients and Loans.
Loan operations
The loan workspace Actions menu now covers the Fineract loan lifecycle: approve and disburse, repayments and down payments, write-off, charge-off, foreclosure, close, officer assignment, and the matching undo commands. Disburse to a linked savings account is a choice on the disbursement form when you have permission. Repayment can transfer from the customer’s savings (shown first) or be recorded as cash; a transfer cannot exceed available savings or the loan outstanding. Cash loan payments do not offer system-generated payment types. What you see depends on the loan’s status and your permissions. See Loans.
Client loan list details
A client’s Loans section is a table: submitted date, then requested amount. Outstanding balance and disbursement date are optional (outstanding on by default; disbursement hidden). A loan in arrears keeps its status and shows an In arrears badge. Show closed also lists a closed date. Click a row to open that loan’s workspace. See Clients.
Dedicated loan pages
Loans have their own list and workspace, like clients. Open Loans in the sidebar, or click a loan on a client — the loan is no longer shown inside the client header. Transaction lists are paged (25 at a time; 10, 50, or 100) and hide reversed postings until you turn on Show reversed. A group loan names the group and links to it. See Loans.
Open an account from a client
Active clients can open a loan, savings, fixed deposit, recurring deposit, or share account from the matching section. Loans use a wizard with the product’s defaults; savings, deposits, and shares are a docked sidebar. A loan includes charges, the repayment schedule, and optional collateral and guarantors before review. After submit you land on the new account. See Clients — Opening an account.
Account detail
Click a loan, savings, deposit, or share on a client to open it. Loans, savings, shares, and deposits open in their own workspace. Approve, disburse or activate, reject, withdraw, undo, or close from Actions. Loan repayments and the rest of the loan lifecycle are on the loan workspace; savings deposits, withdrawals, and related actions are on the savings workspace; share apply, redeem, and lifecycle actions are on the share workspace; fixed and recurring deposit money movements are on the fixed deposit workspace and recurring deposit workspace. See Loans, Savings, Shares, Fixed deposits, Recurring deposits, and Clients — Account detail.
Client associated records
Family, identities, documents, notes, and addresses on a client are no longer read-only. Add, edit, or remove them from each section (addresses are deactivated rather than deleted). Documents can be downloaded. A family member with a date of birth also shows their age. Add and edit open a docked sidebar. See Clients — Associated records.
Account menu
The top-right account control is an initials avatar. Open it for your name, branch, roles, theme (Heritage, Neutral, Royal Blue, Cerulean, Ruby, or Emerald), appearance (light / dark / system), and Sign out. Theme and appearance apply immediately. See Finding your way around.
Bankayo mark
Sign-in and the sidebar now use the Bankayo letter mark (the italic B / Bankayo boxes). The collapsed sidebar shows the B only. Sign-in uses a quiet animated grid behind the mark on a large screen. See Signing in and Finding your way around.
Loan product detail
A loan product now opens as a workspace with a section rail. Fees, penalties, accounting entries, and payment/GL mappings appear as tables when the product has them. Charge names link to the charge. See Loan products.
Charge wizard
Creating a charge is now four steps (applies to, terms, amount & settings, review). Options and required extras follow Fineract: charge time and calculation depend on where the charge applies; loan and working-capital charges need a payment mode; annual and monthly savings fees need a due day. See Charges.
Loan product wizard
Creating a loan product is eight steps (details, currency, terms, settings, charges, accounting, mappings, review). Charges is a selectable table of amount, collection, calculation, payment mode, caps, tax, income account, and related attributes. Mappings (payment channels, fees, penalties, write-off and charge-off reasons) are their own step after accounting. The wizard covers the combinations Fineract accepts: min/max principal and repayments, floating or fixed interest, schedule type, grace, multi-disburse, guarantees, down payment, variable installments, interest recalculation parameters, charges, and GL accounts when accounting is not None. Progressive schedules send Fineract’s default advanced payment allocation. Related fields share a row (min / default / max, paired settings, GL accounts). See Create a loan product.
Required fields
Forms mark required fields with an asterisk (*). A short note on each form explains the mark, except sign-in, where username and password are enough. See Signing in, Clients, and Products.
Products
Admin → Products now lists loan, savings, share, fixed deposit, and recurring deposit products, plus charges. Create and edit use the same full-page wizard. Only loan products have start and close dates. Creating or editing a loan product on a large screen uses a two-column workspace (step rail + form); on a tablet or phone the steps run across the top. Currency is a searchable list (name and code) and can set decimal places and multiples. Amounts such as principal show the currency code in the field and stay disabled until a currency is chosen. See Products.
Product edit wizard
Edit on a loan, savings, share, charge, fixed deposit, or recurring deposit product opens the same wizard used to create it. Close returns to the product. Client edit stays a docked sidebar. See Products.
Edit client sidebar
Edit on a client opens a docked sidebar over the page you are on, instead of sending you to a separate screen. Save and Cancel stay at the bottom of the panel. Close it or press Cancel to stay where you were. See Clients — Editing and status.
Sidebar
The sidebar now leads with Quick access (Dashboard, Clients). Institution and Admin are sections you open, and they follow the page you are on. Unfinished screens show a Soon badge. Ctrl+K finds nested screens such as Currencies. See Finding your way around.
Currency configuration
Admin → Organization → Currencies lists the currencies your institution permits. Add from the full catalog or remove one that is not in use. Products and accounts can only use an enabled currency. See Organization — Currencies.
Top bar
Breadcrumbs use the client's name instead of their ID, search finds clients as well as screens (Ctrl+K / ⌘K), and ? opens help for the page you're on. Theme (Heritage, Neutral, Royal Blue, Cerulean, Ruby, or Emerald) and appearance (light / dark / system) live in the account menu. The account control is your initials. See Finding your way around.
Client performance
Overview shows figures for the client: loan cycles, active loans, last loan amount, total savings, shares, outstanding loan amount, and overdue loans. Amounts use the currency code, not a symbol. Totals that have no single currency use the first currency enabled for the institution. See Clients — Client details.
Client photo, signature, and closed accounts
A client's photo shows large in the header so staff can recognise them. Click it for a closer look, or use the buttons under it to upload a file, capture from a camera, or delete. Signatures live under Actions. On Loans, Savings, and the other product sections, Show closed includes closed accounts. See Clients — Client details.
Client actions
From a client's header you can edit their details, activate a pending client, close, transfer, assign staff, and reverse those decisions — only the actions your role allows. See Clients — Editing and status.
Client detail and associated lists
A client's page is now a tablet-friendly workspace: identity header, then sections for overview, loans, savings, fixed and recurring deposits, shares, family, identities, documents, notes, and address. Wide screens use a vertical section list; narrower screens overflow extra sections into a +N menu. See Clients — Client details.
Client registration wizard
Create clients directly from the client list: a four-step wizard (basic details, contact & identifiers, family members, review) for persons and entities, with immediate or deferred activation. Family members are registered together with the client in one step. Every step validates as you go. See Clients — Creating a client.
Clients: list, search, and export
The first business module: browse your institution's clients under Institution → Clients. Search by name, sort, page through large lists, open a client's detail page, and export the full filtered list as CSV or Excel. Views are bookmarkable — the URL always captures your current search and sort. See Clients.
Workspace navigation
The app shell arrived: a collapsible sidebar organized the way Mifos users expect (Institution, Accounting, Reports, Checker Inbox, Admin), breadcrumbs, a Ctrl+K quick-jump menu, live notifications in the bell, dark/light mode, and your user menu. You only see menu items your permissions allow. See Finding your way around.
Sign-in and secure sessions
The first release of Bankayo: sign in with your username and password, land on your dashboard showing your office, roles, and permissions, and sign out from the header. Sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity (12 hours maximum) to keep client data safe on shared workstations.
