Organization

Organization

Institution settings — offices, employees, working days, holidays, tellers, currencies, funds, payment types, floating rates, delinquency buckets, loan reasons, loan provisioning criteria, tax groups, SMS campaigns, entity data-table checks, ad-hoc query, fund mapping, investors, loan originators, and standing instruction history.

Open Organization in the sidebar (a navigation group, not a page) or press Ctrl+K and type "organization". You need permission for at least one organization screen — if the group is missing, ask your administrator.

Organization lists institution settings you can use. Open a screen from the group (or press Ctrl+K and type its name).

Offices

Open Offices from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "office"). You need office-viewing permission to see the list, plus create or update permission for those actions. Fineract does not delete offices.

The list is an expandable tree under your hierarchy — same idea as Chart of accounts. Expand a parent to see its branches. Expand all and Collapse all open or close the whole tree. Search opens matching offices and their parents. Sort and export (CSV or Excel) work like the other organization catalogs.

  • New office opens a docked sidebar. Name (up to 100 characters), parent, and opening date are required. External ID is optional.
  • Click a row to edit. The head office cannot change parent.

The address bar is Organization › Offices.

Working days

Open Working days from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "working days"). You need working-days viewing permission to see the page, and update permission to save.

This is a single settings form, not a list. Turn on the weekdays the institution is open (at least one). Repayment reschedule is where a repayment that falls on a closed day moves — same day, next working day, next meeting day, or previous working day. Two optional toggles extend the loan term when a daily repayment or a holiday repayment would otherwise shorten it.

The address bar is Organization › Working days.

Employees

Open Employees from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "staff" or "employee"). You need staff-viewing permission to see the list, plus create or update permission for those actions. Fineract does not delete staff — inactive members stay on the list.

  • Search by name, office, mobile, or external ID.
  • New employee opens a docked sidebar. First name, last name, and office are required. Loan officer, active, joining date, mobile, email, and external ID are optional. Mobile must be 7–15 digits, optionally with a leading +.
  • Click a row to edit. Turning Active off is refused if that person still has a client or loan portfolio — the message from the banking service is shown; this screen does not force the change.

The address bar is Organization › Employees.

Holidays

Open Holidays from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "holiday"). You need holiday-viewing permission to see the list, plus create, update, activate, or delete permission for those actions.

A holiday names a closed period for one or more offices and how loan repayments that fall in it should move. New holidays are pending until you Activate them from the row menu. Only active holidays reschedule repayments.

  • Search by name or office. Deleted holidays are hidden.
  • New holiday opens a docked sidebar. Name, from/to dates, and at least one office are required. Reschedule is either the next repayment date or a specific date you pick.
  • Click a row to edit. Pending holidays can change every field. Active holidays can change name and description only.
  • Delete (row menu) asks for confirmation. This is a soft delete.

The address bar is Organization › Holidays.

Tellers

Tellers are cash desks at an office. Save the till first, then allocate cashiers (staff) from the list. Cash details on a cashier is a dedicated page — allocate cash from the vault, settle it back, and page through movements. Amounts use the currency code. Open Tellers from this group (or press Ctrl+K and type "teller" or "cashier").

Currencies

Open Currencies from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "currencies"). You need currency-viewing permission to see the list, and currency-update permission to change it.

This list is the currencies your institution permits. Loan, savings, and charge products can only be created in a currency that is enabled here. The first enabled currency (when sorted by name) is the default when a screen shows a total that has no currency of its own — for example mixed client performance figures.

  • Search by name or code.
  • Sort by clicking Name, Code, or Decimal places.
  • Export downloads the enabled list as CSV or Excel.
  • Add currency opens a docked sidebar, searches the full catalog, and enables the one you pick.
  • Remove (row menu) takes a currency out of use. You cannot remove the last remaining currency, and Fineract will refuse a currency that is still used by a product or charge.

The address bar is Organization › Currencies.

Funds

Funds are source-of-capital names — donor, programme, or internal pool — that you tag on a loan product and when opening a loan. They are labels, not ledger accounts. Open Funds from this group (or press Ctrl+K and type "funds"). The Fund field on those screens stays hidden until at least one name exists.

Payment types

Open Payment types from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "payment types"). You need payment-type viewing permission to see the list, plus create, update, or delete permission for those actions.

A payment type is a method — cash, mobile money, cheque — that officers pick on cash loan payments, and that you can map to a fund-source GL account on a loan product. The payment-channel mapping table and cash payment pickers stay empty until at least one institution type exists here.

  • Search by name or description.
  • Sort by clicking Name, Cash, Position, or System.
  • Export downloads the list as CSV or Excel.
  • New payment type opens a docked sidebar. Name is required (up to 100 characters). Description, cash flag, and position are optional.
  • Click a row to edit that type.
  • Delete (row menu) asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses a type that is still used on a payment or a product mapping.

Cash payment marks the type for reporting. Loan cash repayments list every non-system type — cash or not. Fineract also creates system-generated types (transfers, down payment, and similar). Those appear with a System badge. You can rename them; you cannot delete them. Cash loan payments and loan-product payment-channel mappings never offer them.

The address bar is Organization › Payment types.

Floating rates

Open Floating rates from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "floating rates"). You need floating-rate viewing permission to see the list, plus create or update permission for those actions.

A floating rate is a published scheme — a name, optional base-lending-rate flag, and dated periods — that a loan product can track. The floating-rate picker on that step stays empty until at least one active rate exists here.

  • Search by name.
  • Export downloads the list as CSV or Excel.
  • New floating rate opens a docked sidebar. Name is required (up to 200 characters). Add at least one period that starts tomorrow or later.
  • Click a row to edit. Periods that have already started are read-only. Saving replaces only the future periods.
  • Fineract does not delete floating rates.

Base lending rate may be on for only one scheme at a time. Other rates can then mark a period as a differential against that base. Inactive rates do not appear when you create a product.

Opening a loan on a floating-rate product uses that published rate plus the product’s differential. Officers can keep the loan tracking later periods when the product allows floating calculation.

The address bar is Organization › Floating rates.

Delinquency buckets

Open Delinquency buckets from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "delinquency"). You need delinquency-bucket viewing permission to see the list, plus create, update, or delete permission for those actions.

A range is a day-past-due band (classification, minimum days, optional maximum). A bucket names a set of ranges. A loan product turns on installment-level delinquency by picking a bucket — the field stays hidden until at least one bucket exists here.

Start on Ranges if none exist yet:

  • Search by classification (ranges) or name and range (buckets).
  • Export downloads the current tab as CSV or Excel.
  • New range opens a docked sidebar. Classification is required (up to 100 characters). Minimum days must be at least 1. Leave maximum blank for an open-ended band (for example 181+).
  • New bucket is available after at least one range exists. Name is required. Include at least one range. Fineract refuses overlapping ranges in the same bucket.
  • Click a row to edit. Delete (row menu) asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses a range still used in a bucket, or a bucket still used on a product.

The address bar is Organization › Delinquency buckets.

Loan reasons

Open Loan reasons from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "write-off" or "charge-off"). You need code-value viewing permission to see the list, plus create, update, or delete permission for those actions.

These are the write-off and charge-off reasons officers pick on a loan, and that a loan product can map to an expense account. The two lists are Fineract system codes (WriteOffReasons and ChargeOffReasons); this page does not manage other codes.

  • Write-off and Charge-off tabs. Search by name or description.
  • Export downloads the current tab as CSV or Excel.
  • New opens a docked sidebar. Name is required (up to 100 characters). Description, position, and active are optional. Inactive reasons do not appear when writing off or charging off a loan.
  • Click a row to edit. Delete (row menu) asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses a reason that is still in use.

The address bar is Organization › Loan reasons.

Loan provisioning criteria

Open Loan provisioning criteria from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "provisioning criteria"). You need provisioning-criteria viewing permission to see the list, plus create, update, or delete permission for those actions.

Define overdue-age bands, reserve percentages, and liability and expense GL accounts for each loan product. Provisioning entries need at least one criteria before you can calculate reserves. See Loan-loss provisioning for how criteria, loans, GL accounts, and journal entries fit together.

The address bar is Organization › Loan provisioning criteria.

Tax groups

Open Tax groups from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "tax"). You need tax-group or tax-component viewing permission to see the list, plus create or update permission for those actions. Fineract does not delete tax components or groups.

A component is a named percentage (for example 16% VAT) with an optional credit GL account. A group names a set of components. A charge can pick a group — the field stays hidden until at least one group exists here.

Start on Components if none exist yet:

  • Search by name or account (components) or name and component (groups).
  • Export downloads the current tab as CSV or Excel.
  • New component opens a docked sidebar. Name and percentage are required (percentage greater than 0 and at most 100). Start date is optional. Credit account is optional and cannot change after create. Create those accounts under Accounting → Chart of accounts.
  • New group is available after at least one component exists. Name is required. Include at least one component. Combined percentages cannot exceed 100%.
  • Click a row to edit. Changing a component percentage needs a start date tomorrow or later. You can add components to a group; Fineract does not remove a component once it is in the group.

The address bar is Organization › Tax groups.

SMS campaigns

Open SMS campaigns from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "sms campaign"). You need SMS-campaign viewing permission.

Compose SMS or in-app notifications against a Fineract business-rule audience. Sending needs a configured SMS gateway (or the notification toggle). See SMS campaigns.

Bulk import

Open an Import … type from Organization (or press Ctrl+K and type "import" plus the entity). You need the matching read permission for each entity.

Download a Fineract Excel template, fill it, and upload it. This is the organisation-wide importer — not the journal preview importer, the savings deposit importer, the share purchase importer, or the groups-list shortcut. See Bulk import.

Bulk loan reassignment

Open Bulk loan reassignment from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "bulk loan reassignment"). You need loan viewing permission; submit needs bulk-reassign permission.

Move loans from one officer to another at the same office. See Bulk loan reassignment.

Password preferences

Open Password preferences from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "password preferences"). You need password-preferences viewing permission.

Choose which seeded Fineract policy new user passwords must meet. See Password preferences.

Entity data-table checks

Open Entity data-table checks from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "entity data table checks"). You need entity-datatable-check viewing permission.

Require a registered extra-data table when a client, group, loan, or savings account reaches a status. This is not System → Manage data tables. See Entity data-table checks.

Ad-hoc query

Open Ad-hoc query from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "ad-hoc query"). You need create, update, or delete permission — Fineract has no read-only ad-hoc permission.

Saved SQL the schedule job inserts into a table. This is not a live query console and not Reports. See Ad-hoc query.

Fund mapping

Open Fund mapping from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "fund mapping"). You need loan viewing permission.

Search outstanding loans grouped by office and product. This is not Funds and not a ledger mapping. See Fund mapping.

Investors

Open Investors from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "investors"). You need loan viewing permission.

Search external asset-owner transfers. Cancel a pending or buyback transfer from the row. Sale and buyback start on a loan. See Investors.

Loan originators

Open Loan originators from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "loan originators"). You need loan-originator viewing permission.

Name parties that originate loans. Attach them on a pending loan, not here. See Loan originators.

Standing instruction history

Open Standing instruction history from the Organization hub (or press Ctrl+K and type "standing instruction history"). You need standing instruction viewing permission.

This is every run of a standing instruction — successful transfers and failures — not the instruction itself. Create and edit instructions under Institution → Standing instructions. See Standing instruction history.
