Roles

Named permission sets you assign to users.

Open Roles from Admin (or press Ctrl+K and type "roles"). You need permission to view the list, create permission to add a role, update permission to rename one, and delete permission to remove one. Granting permissions on a role is a separate permission.

A role is a named set of permissions. You assign roles on Users. Changing a role’s permissions changes what every login with that role can do.

Maker-checker flags (which actions need a checker) are not per role. They are set for the whole institution on Maker-checker. Commands that already require a checker show a Needs checker badge on this page.

The list

  • Search by name or description.
  • Sort by clicking a column heading.
  • Export downloads the catalog as CSV or Excel.
  • New role opens a docked sidebar. Name (up to 100 characters) and description (up to 500) are required. After save you land on that role’s permissions page.
  • Click a row to open permissions for that role.
  • The row menu Edit changes name and description. Disable hides the role from new assignments; Enable brings it back. Disable and delete are refused if any user still has the role.

The address bar is Admin › Roles.

Permissions on a role

The role page lists every permission, grouped (for example authorisation, portfolio, accounting). Search by the everyday name or the permission code.

Tick a permission to grant it, or use the group checkbox to grant or clear the whole group. Save permissions writes only what changed.

If the role is disabled, enable it before changing permissions. If Save permissions is missing, you do not have permission to change grants.
