Bulk import
Download Fineract Excel templates, fill them, and upload them for offices, clients, loans, and other entities.
Open an Import … type from Organization in the sidebar (or press Ctrl+K and type "import" plus the entity). You need the matching READ_* permission for that entity (for example READ_CLIENT for clients, READ_LOAN for loans). Upload needs the matching create or transaction permission.
This is the organisation-wide Fineract workbook importer
(GET {entity}/downloadtemplate, POST {entity}/uploadtemplate,
GET /imports). It is not the journal preview importer
under Accounting, not the savings deposit importer
or share purchase importer under Institution, and not
the Excel shortcut on the groups list — those stay as shortcuts. Journals,
savings deposits, and share purchases are never imported from these screens.
Types
Each type is a first-class Organization screen:
- Offices
- Users
- Groups
- Centers
- Clients
- Employees
- Guarantors
- Loans
- Fixed deposits
- Recurring deposits
- Chart of accounts
- Loan repayments
- Savings transactions
- Fixed deposit transactions
- Recurring deposit transactions
Import journal entries stays under
Accounting. It previews rows and posts them one at a time — it does not use
Fineract’s journal workbook (gljournalentries).
Import savings stays under Institution. It previews rows
and posts deposits one at a time — it does not use Fineract’s savings-account
workbook (savingsaccount). Fineract savings-transaction workbooks remain
on this hub.
Import shares stays under Institution. It previews rows
and posts share purchases one at a time — it does not use Fineract’s
share-account workbook (shareaccounts).
What you can do
Open an entity. Download template returns an Excel workbook with the columns Fineract expects. Office, staff, and client type (person or entity) filter the lookup sheets when that entity offers them.
Upload a completed .xls or .xlsx file (up to 10 MB). Fineract
processes the workbook in the background. Previous imports lists each
upload: started, finished, status, and row counts. Output downloads
the result workbook with row-level errors (GET /imports/downloadOutputTemplate).
Client person vs entity is taken from the type picker, or from the file
name if you do not pick one. Guarantor templates use Fineract’s dummy loan
path (/loans/1/guarantors); the path loan id is ignored for the workbook.
Sending still needs a completed template that matches Fineract’s columns. Wrong columns fail in the output file, not in Bankayo validation.
