Organization

Funds

Source-of-capital names for loan products and for opening a loan.

Open Funds from Organization (or press Ctrl+K and type "funds"). You need fund-viewing permission to see the list, create permission to add a fund, and update permission to edit one.

A fund is a source-of-funds name: the donor, government programme, or internal pool that put up the money. It is a tag, not an account. It does not hold a balance and it does not post to the general ledger. You put it on a loan product and, separately, on a loan when opening. Fineract then stores whose capital that product or loan uses.

The Fund field on those screens appears only after at least one fund exists here. If you never split the book by who financed it, you can leave this list empty.

Why they help

Without funds, products and loans do not record who supplied the capital. With a short catalog you can:

  • Separate own capital from donor or government money — for example Internal, World Bank SME 2026, or a youth programme.
  • Give a product a programme identity. After save, that name shows under General on the product.
  • Tag an individual loan when an officer opens it, even if several funds share the same product terms.
  • Store an external ID that matches a donor project code or another system, so the name here lines up with theirs.
  • Export the catalog for audit.

Bankayo copies the product’s fund onto a new loan as the default. Officers can still pick a different fund, or No fund — a fund is not required on the application.

Not the same as a fund-source account

Fund source on loan product accounting is a GL account — the cash or asset account disbursements and repayments post through. That is bookkeeping. An Organization fund is only the programme name. You can map many loans to one GL fund-source account and still tag them with different Organization funds.

Hold guarantee funds on loan product settings is a different feature (money held against a loan). It does not use this list.

The list and creating a fund

  • Search by name or external ID.
  • Sort by clicking a column heading.
  • Export downloads the list as CSV or Excel.
  • New fund opens a docked sidebar. Name is required (up to 100 characters). External ID is optional, for a reference from another system.
  • Click a row to edit that fund. The name updates everywhere the fund is used.

Fineract does not delete funds. If a name is no longer used, rename it or leave it unused.

The address bar is Organization › Funds.
