Loan product details
Name, short name, optional dates, fund, and borrower cycle.
This is step 1 of the create wizard. After save, the same fields appear under General on the product.
Identity
- Name — up to 100 characters. This is what officers see when they open a loan.
- Short name — at most four characters. Fineract uses it as a compact code; keep it unique enough to recognise on lists.
- Description — optional, up to 500 characters.
- External ID — optional reference from another system, up to 100 characters.
- Fund — optional. This is the donor, programme, or internal pool this product belongs to — a label, not a ledger account. The list comes from Organization → Funds. The field is hidden until at least one fund exists. After save it appears under General on the product. Officers still pick a fund when they open a loan; Bankayo copies this value onto the application as the default. Leave it blank if the product is not tied to one source of capital (No fund). The cash-accounting walkthrough sets Internal. Do not confuse this with fund source on accounting, which is a GL cash or bank account.
When the product may be used
Start date and close date are optional. They are the product availability window — the only product type in Bankayo that has one.
- Leave both blank if the product should stay available.
- If you set both, close date cannot be before start date.
- After the close date has passed, Fineract marks the product Inactive. The catalog list shows that status next to the dates.
- Savings, share, charge, and deposit products have no equivalent dates.
Borrower cycle
- Include in borrower cycle — count loans on this product toward the client’s cycle number.
- Use borrower cycle — vary principal, interest rate, or number of repayments by how many loans the client has already taken.
When Use borrower cycle is on, you add rows for principal, interest, and repayments. Each row is a cycle number with a condition (equal to, or greater than), a default value, and optional min/max. Rows must run in sequence — Fineract rejects a gap or an out-of-order condition.
Turn the toggle off and the variation tables are cleared.
