Loan product mappings
Map payment channels, charges, and reasons to GL accounts.
This is step 7 of the create wizard. Mappings are optional. They appear only when accounting is Cash or Accrual. If the rule is None, this step explains that and you can continue to review.
The cash-accounting walkthrough maps the institution payment type Cash
to fund-source GL 1220. Fee and penalty rows only appear when the product
has matching charges attached.
Each mapping is a row: something officers pick (a payment type, a charge, or a reason) and the general ledger account it should post to. Add a row, choose both sides, or remove a row you do not need.
The charge rows are overrides. Accounting already sets one income account for every fee on the product and one for every penalty; a row here sends a single charge somewhere else instead.
What you can map
- Payment channels to fund-source GL accounts (payment type → account). The list is institution payment types from Organization → Payment types — not Fineract’s system-generated types (transfers, down payment, and similar). Those exist for other loan operations, not cash channels. The mapping table is hidden until at least one institution type exists.
- Fees to income accounts — this overrides the product's default income from fees account for that one charge. Charges with no row keep the default.
- Penalties to income accounts — the same override against income from penalties.
- Charge-off reasons to expense accounts.
- Write-off reasons to expense accounts.
Reason lists come from Organization → Loan reasons. Each mapping table is hidden until at least one reason and one expense account exist. These mappings show as their own sections on the product after save.
After save
You can change mappings later with Edit. GL accounts themselves are maintained under Accounting → Chart of accounts.
