Chart of accounts
Ledger accounts products and charges pick when they post to the books.
Open Chart of accounts from Accounting (or press Ctrl+K and type "chart of accounts" or "GL"). You need GL-account viewing permission to see the list, plus create, update, or delete permission for those actions.
A GL account is a ledger line — name, unique GL code, type (asset, liability, equity, income, or expense), and usage. Loan products, savings products, and charges pick detail accounts of the matching type. Header accounts only group other accounts; they do not appear on those pickers.
The list
- Tree view shows parent/child hierarchy. Expand a header account to see the detail accounts nested under it. Expand all and Collapse all open or close the whole chart. Search expands matching branches for you.
- Search by name, GL code, description, or parent.
- Type filters the list to one classification.
- Export downloads the full chart as CSV or Excel, with parent links for the hierarchy.
Creating an account
New GL account opens a docked sidebar.
- Name (up to 200 characters) and GL code (up to 45, unique) are required.
- Account type is asset, liability, equity, income, or expense.
- Usage is detail or header. Detail accounts appear on product and charge pickers; headers group other accounts.
- Parent is optional. It must be a header of the same type. Create the header first if you want a hierarchy.
- Manual entries default to on. Turn that off when officers should not post journal lines here directly.
- Description is optional, up to 500 characters.
Editing and deleting
- Click a row to edit. Disable an account so it no longer appears when you create a product. Fineract refuses disable if a product still maps to it. Disable is only on edit, not on create.
- Delete (row menu) asks for confirmation. Fineract refuses an account that has children, journal entries, or a product mapping.
