Journal entries
Search ledger postings, post a balanced journal, or reverse one.
Open Journal entries from Accounting (or press Ctrl+K and type "journal" or "ledger"). You need journal-viewing permission to see the list, create permission to post, and reverse permission to undo a posting.
A journal line is one debit or credit against a GL
account. Several lines share a
transaction ID. Loan disbursements and repayments, savings deposits,
withdrawals, and posted interest, and cashier allocate or settle cash show
up here when they post to the books. Loan-loss provisioning
journals appear here after you Create journals on a provisioning entry.
Amounts use the currency code
(KES, not a symbol).
The list
The first view is the last month through today. Tabs switch all, manual, or system entries. Filters opens a popover for dates, office, account, and transaction ID. Clear restores the last month through today. Export downloads every line that matches the current filters as CSV or Excel.
- Click a row to open every line on that transaction.
- The address bar keeps the filters so you can bookmark or share the view.
The address bar is Accounting › Journal entries.
Posting a journal
New journal opens a wizard. You work through Details (office, currency, and date; an accounting rule is optional and fills the debit and credit accounts — Details shows those accounts as soon as you pick the rule; reference and comments are optional), Payment if payment types exist, then Lines. If you skipped the rule, pick the accounts yourself. Totals must match — Fineract refuses an unbalanced journal. Review shows the full entry before you post. Amounts use the currency code.
If New journal is missing, you do not have create permission. If Post stays off, enable a currency under Currencies and create a detail account with Manual entries on.
The address bar is Accounting › Journal entries › New journal.
Import from Excel
Import journal entries is the Bankayo spreadsheet importer (preview, then post). Open it from Accounting next to Journal entries, or from Import on this list. It is not the Fineract workbook under Organization bulk import.
Reversing
Open a transaction and Reverse when you have reverse permission. An optional reason is stored on the reversing journal. Already reversed transactions cannot reverse again. System postings from loans, savings, and tellers follow the same rule — Fineract’s reason is shown if it refuses.
