Share product accounting
None or cash — the four GL accounts cash needs, and a create, open, and edit cycle.
This is step 7 of the create wizard. After save, the product opens as a sectioned workspace. Accounting is on the rail when the rule is Cash. Share products have no mappings step.
The walkthrough on this page creates Normal Share With Accounting on Cash, opens the product, and edits the description and maximum shares. Share products cannot be deleted. They have no start or close date, and no accrual option.
This page explains the accounting rule and every general ledger (GL) account cash needs. Create or adjust the accounts themselves under Accounting → Chart of accounts.
On the seeded chart, example codes are in parentheses. Your institution may use different codes; the type (asset, liability, equity, income) must still match the picker.
Accounting rule
Share products have two posting styles. There is no Accrual (periodic) and no Accrual (upfront) — those exist on savings and loan products.
- None — no GL accounts. Use this while you are still designing the product, or when another system is the ledger. Share accounts can still be opened; they just do not write journal lines in Bankayo.
- Cash — a journal posts when share money moves (activation, a purchase, a redeem, a collected fee). Requires the four cash accounts below.
Every required account is a searchable list of detail GL accounts of the matching type. Header accounts only group other accounts and never appear here.
Cash accounts
Required whenever the rule is Cash.
- Share reference (asset,
1110Cash at Main Vault) — the cash or bank account share money moves through. Same idea as savings reference on a savings product, or fund source on a loan product. - Share suspense (liability,
2130Share Suspense) — money in flight between cash and equity, for example a purchase that has left cash and not yet landed in share equity. - Share equity (equity,
3120Share Equity) — subscribed capital. This picker lists equity accounts only. - Income from fees (income,
4210Income from Fees) — the product default for every share fee. Officers can still add a fee on the account if you did not attach charges on the product.
Create, open, and edit
New on the share products list opens the wizard. Save on Review creates the product and opens it: General, Terms, and Settings, plus Fees and Accounting when Cash is on.
Edit reopens the same eight steps. Close returns to the product. Share products cannot be deleted — unlike savings products. Change a saved product with Edit.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Accrual is missing | Share products only offer None and Cash. Use a savings or loan product for accrual. |
| GL picker empty | Create a detail account of the matching type under Chart of accounts. Equity accounts appear only on Share equity. |
| Save rejected on Cash | All four accounts are required. Fix the highlighted pickers. |
| No Delete | Share products have no delete in the core banking system. Edit the product instead. |
This walkthrough matches the written guide on this page.
