Create a share product
The eight-step wizard for creating or editing a share product.
New on the share products list opens this wizard. Edit on a product uses the same steps and returns to that product when you close.
On a large screen, steps stay in a left rail. Previous and Next sit at the bottom of the page. On a tablet or phone the steps run across the top. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*). Amounts show the currency code, not a symbol.
You can jump back to an earlier step without losing what you typed. Bankayo only asks for extra fields when you turn a feature on — for example GL accounts after you leave accounting on None.
Share products do not have a start or close date.
The eight steps
- Details — name (up to 200 characters), short name (up to 4), and description (up to 500). All three are required.
- Currency — code, decimal places, and amount multiples. Amounts stay disabled until a currency is chosen.
- Terms — total shares, shares issued, and unit price. Share capital is issued shares × unit price; you cannot type it. Shares issued cannot be greater than total shares.
- Settings — minimum, nominal, and maximum shares a client can hold on this product. Nominal is required. If you set a minimum, nominal cannot be below it; if you set a maximum, it cannot be below nominal. Optional lock-in is the period and unit together (days, weeks, months, or years). Optional minimum active period for dividends is in days only. You can allow dividend calculation for inactive clients.
- Market price — optional periods. Each row is a from date and a share value that applies from that date. Skip the step if the unit price is enough. Two rows cannot share the same from date.
- Charges — fees that apply to shares in this product’s currency. Check a row to attach it; officers can still add or remove charges when they open a share account. Share charges cannot be penalties.
- Accounting — None or Cash. None does not post to the general ledger. Cash needs four accounts: share reference (asset), share suspense (liability), share equity (equity), and income from fees (income). There is no accrual option. See Share product accounting for every account and a walkthrough that saves and edits a cash product.
- Review — confirm every section, then create or save.
Rules that span steps
The core banking system will reject combinations that do not work together. Bankayo blocks the common ones in the form:
- Shares issued cannot exceed total shares.
- Nominal shares cannot sit below the minimum or above the maximum.
- A lock-in period needs both a length and a unit.
- A minimum active period for dividends must be in days.
- Cash accounting needs the four GL accounts; None does not.
If save still fails, the message comes from the core banking system — fix the highlighted fields and try again.
Creating needs share-product create permission; editing needs update permission. Share products cannot be deleted. Viewing a product you cannot edit still opens the definition without Edit.
