Savings
Open a savings account in its own workspace.
A savings account has its own workspace — not the client header or section list. Open one from a client’s Savings section or from group savings. The product that account was opened on is defined under Savings products; how it posts to the books is explained under Savings product accounting.
The top of the page keeps the account number, status, account type (with an icon), product, a link to the client or group this account belongs to, and the balance, then splits into sections:
- Overview — performance (balance, available balance, deposits, withdrawals, posted interest, and last activity) next to product, interest rate, officer, and important dates. When they apply, you also see inward and outward transfers (account-to-account money, counted separately from cash deposits and withdrawals), interest not yet posted, overdraft used, tax withheld, fees, and dormancy. Amounts use the currency code. A group savings account also names the group and links to it.
- Transactions — postings on the account, 25 to a page (you can choose 10, 50, or 100). Filter by transaction date and type; the address bar keeps those filters. Reversed postings are hidden until you turn on Show reversed. A deposit or withdrawal that came from an account transfer is labelled Inward transfer or Outward transfer; payment details and the transfer description appear under the type when Fineract sent them. You can undo or change a cash deposit or withdrawal (date, amount, payment type, payment details, and external ID). Account transfers cannot be undone or changed from this list — Fineract rejects that. On a hold you can release the amount. A cash deposit or withdrawal that is not reversed and not a transfer can Download receipt as a PDF.
- Statement — pick a from/to range (defaults to the last month through today) to preview opening and closing balances, credits, and debits, then Download PDF. See Savings statement.
- Charges — fees and penalties on this account. See Savings charges for add, pay, waive, stop recurring, and remove.
Actions depend on status and your permissions. Commands that need a date, amount, or other details open a docked sidebar over the account — the header stays visible. Confirm-only commands (undo approval, calculate or post interest, block, undo a transaction, release a hold) ask you to confirm. Cash deposits and withdrawals list only institution payment types — not system-generated ones. Add those types under Organization → Payment types. After a cash deposit or withdrawal, download a receipt from the sidebar when Fineract returns the new transaction id.
Typical work from the savings header:
- Pending — approve, reject, withdraw, or delete the application; assign an officer.
- Approved — activate, or undo approval.
- Active — record a deposit or withdrawal, hold an amount, post or calculate interest, close the account, assign an officer, or block deposits, withdrawals, or both. A withdrawal or hold cannot exceed the available balance. If the account is already blocked, you see the matching unblock action instead.
If the account is inactive, dormant, blocked, or escheated, that state appears next to the usual status.
From a client or group list, clicking a savings row opens this same workspace.
Import savings (Institution) bulk-posts deposits from a spreadsheet. See Import savings.
